Coaching for Students
Student coaching is an increasingly popular method of learning for students of
all ages.
It is a different relationship than the teacher-student relationship commonly
established in a classroom.
A student coach is a one-on-one relationship that departs from traditional
educational methods. Instead standing in front of a group of students
and giving lectures, the coach seeks to lead the student on an organic
journey of education and self-discovery. The student coach will ask
questions that are intended to lead the student down a line of
reasoning until the student is able to make discoveries "on their own".
Coaching for students goes beyond teaching students certain
disciplines or materials. Student coaches can help teens and young
adults adjust to new transitions in their lives. High school and college
age people have many adjustments to make as they adapt to social
and physical changes in their lives. Student coaches can help them
understand and cope with the changes they are experiencing. High
school and college can also be hard on a student's self-esteem.
Student coaches can help students develop confidence in themselves.
While most colleges and high schools offer guidance counselors or
other counseling services for their students, coaching for students is
more than just helping students make the correct decisions about
colleges and courses. Student coaching is a confidential, supportive,
confidence-building relationship that can help your student through
these crucial times of self-discovery, decision-making, stress and
peer pressure.
